Bear River press facility is located in the southeast tip of Idaho and houses one of Pioneer Commercial Print DGM 440 presses, with UV ink capability. The team at our Preston location is comprised of press experts with over 200 years combined experience.
Construction on the Pioneer Commercial Print, Bear River facility began in 2000. A new 16 unit DGM 440 was installed with auto inking, automated register controls and zero speed splicers. The press was a new product for DGM (Dauphin Graphic Machine) and Bear River became their first installation. Bear River became operational in March 2001.
Two years after the facility opened, a new 10 into 1 Schur 855 inserter was purchased. The machine was chosen for its speed and ease of operation. The inserter, manufactured in Denmark, was the first of its kind to be installed in the US. In 2005, the facility added another DGM 4-color tower with UV lights to begin producing gloss stock work. The install included a second folder and an additional zero speed splicer. The plant upgraded its prepress department in 2005 by adding a Screen computer to plate machine (CTP), which produced up to 40 plates per hour automatically. In 2007, a second Screen CTP machine was added to handle increasing plant volume along with an automated bending and punching unit that created a hands free plate making process.
Today, Bear River Publishing has 43 full and part time employees who produce three daily newspapers, 18 weeklies and more than 40 monthly products, including comprehensive preprint and mailing functions with state-of-the art equipment. Additionally, they produce gloss products for all Pioneer News Group locations and numerous commercial printing customers.
Located along the southern line of the state of Montana, the Bozeman Daily Chronicle houses one of Pioneer Commercial Print’s DGM 440 presses. They have a press and production staff representing over 200 years in collective press experience.
