Gene Fowler Jr.

Gene Fowler Jr. began his half-century-long newspaper career at The McDowell News in Marion, N.C., as a paperboy before stints with Jackson Publishing in southeast Ohio, The Island Packet in Hilton Head, S.C., and Cox Newspapers in Colorado, Texas, and North Carolina before joining APG.
Raised in a newspaper family, his father, Gene Fowler Sr., was a longtime owner and publisher of The McDowell News in Marion, North Carolina, and also has children in the industry. Gene has held most positions in the business, including paperboy, pressman, darkroom technician, sports editor, sales representative, classified manager, director of sales and marketing, general manager, publisher, and regional vice president, culminating in his current role as regional president.
He has been married to his wife, Erin, for 36 years, and they have six children: Trey, Austin, Olivia, Grace, Mitchell, and Annie.
Fowler attended Appalachian State University and, in his leisure time, races road bicycles at the national and international level.
