Michael D. Beatty joined Adams Publishing Group as president of APG Media of Florida in July of 2018, after its acquisition of Sun Coast Media Group Inc. He has nearly 40 years of newspaper and magazine experience since starting as a sales representative with the Telegraph Herald in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1980.
Beatty came to APG from Community Newspaper Holdings Inc., where he had served as Publisher of the Joplin (Missouri) Globe, with regional responsibility for the Oklahoma newspaper group. During his tenure, the Globe won numerous awards, including an Emmy for the documentary, “Deadline in Disaster,” about the newspaper’s response to the 2011 tornado that killed 161 people in Joplin.
Prior to his time at CNHI, Beatty held numerous executive positions in the newspaper industry. He was the Publisher of the Baltimore Examiner, Executive Sales Director for the Baltimore Sun, Director of Advertising for the New Haven Register; Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Liberty Suburban Chicago Newspapers; Director of Advertising for Hollinger Newspapers at the Chicago Sun Times and Daily Southtown; Publisher of the Chicago Division of McGraw Hill Dodge Construction News; Display Advertising Director of the Post and Courier newspapers in Charleston, SC; and Retail Advertising Manager and Advertising Director of Dubuque Telegraph Herald and Platteville Shopping News properties of Woodward Communications in Iowa.
A graduate of API, Tribune Leadership Development Program and Executive Technique, Beatty has been a guest speaker or trainer for numerous press associations and colleges.
He has served on numerous boards throughout his career and. In addition to community involvement, his interests include coaching baseball; golf; sailing; and church leadership.
Beatty graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in business management.
