Rebecca Poynter, joining Adams Publishing Group as the president of its Washington division, brings a wealth of experience from her 35-year career in the newspaper industry. Originating from eastern Kentucky, Rebecca began her journey at her hometown newspaper, The Corbin Times Tribune, during her high school years, undertaking diverse roles from writing obituaries to managing mail.

Her extensive career includes significant tenures at Gannett and McClatchy. At Gannett, Rebecca contributed to the Army Times Publishing and USA Today in Washington, D.C., and spent a substantial period in Detroit. There, she advanced to senior vice president of the Detroit Media Partnership, overseeing The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press. She played a pivotal role in transitioning these publications to a three-day-a-week delivery model, a strategic move credited with sustaining two independent newspapers in Detroit. Rebecca also led the transformation from Detroit Media Partnership to Michigan.com, enhancing digital marketing solutions for local businesses.

Rebecca also held the position of president of Gannett Michigan, overseeing the Lansing State Journal and Port Huron Times Herald. She later joined McClatchy as publisher of the Idaho Statesman in Boise, and subsequently the Tacoma News Tribune, with additional responsibilities for newspapers in Bellingham, Tri-Cities, and Olympia.

Rebecca’s diverse experience includes roles at the Coca-Cola Company and Delta Air Lines, where she embraced values of teamwork and customer service, principles she has seamlessly integrated into her newspaper career.

In her new role at APG, Rebecca will oversee the daily newspapers the Skagit Valley Herald in Mt. Vernon, the Daily Record in Ellensburg, the weeklies the Anacortes American, Stanwood Camano News, and the websites Goskagit.com and dailyrecordnews.com.

Having resided in Washington for the past six years, most recently in Gig Harbor, Rebecca is deeply committed to her adopted state, its communities, and their local newspapers.
