Adams Publishing Group, LLC acquires the Evergreen Country Shopper, North Country Sun and Evergreen Zone 2 from LaPean Publications

Minneapolis, MN – July 1, 2015-­‐ Adams Publishing Group, LLC announced today that it has purchased the assets of LaPean Publications headquartered in Ashland, Wisconsin. The acquisition includes the Evergreen Country Shopper, North Country Sun and Evergreen Zone 2.

“We are excited to continue our expansion in the wonderful state of Wisconsin,” stated Stephen Adams, Chairman of Adams Publishing Group. The expansion by family-­‐owned Adams Publishing Group follows the  acquisition of the Rice Lake Chronotype last August and Huckle Media located in Southern Minnesota last July. Prior to that, Adams acquired three divisions of American Consolidated Media located in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Maryland and Ohio.

APG Media of Wisconsin now publishes six subscription newspapers and eight shoppers including the Ashland Daily Press, Bayfield County Journal, Evergreen Country Shopper, North Country Sun, Price County Review, Review Extra, Evergreen Zone 2, Rice Lake Chronotype, Early Bird Shopper, Weekender Central, Spooner Advocate, Weekender North, Sawyer County Record and Four Seasons Shopper.

“Although the decision to sell part of our business was tough, we believe the merger of our shopper publications and the newspapers APG owns is best for all.” Gary LaPean, owner of LaPean Publications, said. “We believe the readers and advertisers will be better served with a combined operation, and we are excited for the future of our employees.” added LaPean. The Printing Plus business run by the LaPean family will stay in business and under their guidance.

The Ashland Daily Press is lead by David LaPorte. “We believe the addition of these publications will allow us to better serve our communities ”said LaPorte. “ We are looking forward to working with all Mr. LaPean’s staff and integrating them into new exciting initiatives we have planned.”

Adams Publishing Group was founded by Minneapolis native Stephen Adams. He is the youngest son of longtime CBS/WCCO television/radio personality and Minneapolis Star Tribune columnist Cedric Adams. In addition to newspapers, the family owns radio stations, the nation’s largest privately held outdoor advertising company (which owns Adams Outdoor Advertising plant in Madison, Wisconsin, magazines, and commercial printing businesses. It has also owned television stations and currently owns other non-­‐media businesses, including Camping World/Good Sam Enterprises. In prior years it has owned Minneapolis/St. Paul magazine, and Plymouth, MN-­‐based Ehlert Publishing Group, a publisher of specialty magazines serving the motorcycle, RV, snowmobile, and boating print and digital products. “Our roots are long and deep in Minnesota, and we’re very pleased to be expanding our newspaper holdings in Wisconsin,” said Adams.
